Embark on an unparalleled odyssey with the Costa Rica 200, an extraordinary ultramarathon that challenges runners to traverse the entire breadth of Costa Rica from the Caribbean to the Pacific. Set for April 27, 2026, this epic journey begins near the Caribbean coast in Barra Pacuare—a remote start accessible only by boat—and culminates on the Pacific shores of Quepos, close to the stunning Manuel Antonio National Park. While the event is organized with San José as a central hub for pre-race logistics, the true adventure unfolds across approximately 207 miles (335 km) of Costa Rica's breathtaking and diverse landscapes.
Prepare for an immersive experience as you navigate a course boasting an estimated total elevation gain of over 54,000 feet, ascending from sea level to altitudes exceeding 8,000 feet. Runners will encounter a dramatic range of conditions, with typical race day temperatures fluctuating from below 35℉ (2°C) in the highest cloud forests to over 90℉ (32°C) in the lowlands. The route itself is a tapestry of terrains, including challenging jungle singletracks, doubletracks, abandoned roads, farm trails, dirt, gravel, and even some paved sections, winding through 10 to 15 distinct microclimates. Expect to push your limits through banana, coffee, and sugar cane plantations, lush lowland jungles, volcanic landscapes, and numerous river crossings, all while being captivated by waterfalls and steep mountain climbs.
More than just a race, the Costa Rica 200 is a profound cultural and scenic expedition, celebrated as one of the most challenging and breathtaking endurance events globally. As part of the prestigious One Hundred® Endurance Trail World Championship, this nonstop, point-to-point race is renowned for testing both physical and mental fortitude. Runners are supported by 14 fully stocked aid stations offering hot food, beverages, medical assistance, and designated sleeping areas, with local communities playing a vital role in hosting and managing these crucial points. Participants are encouraged to be self-sufficient between aid stations and should note that this is a cupless race. This race promises to be a transformative odyssey, leaving every finisher with a deeply personal sense of accomplishment and an unforgettable connection to the vibrant "Pura Vida" spirit of Costa Rica.
