Prepare for an unparalleled trail running experience at the Mt. Umunhum Ultras, set to challenge runners on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in the stunning landscapes of San Jose, CA. Hosted by Troy's California Trail Runs, this exclusive event is renowned for its diverse course and formidable ascents, drawing adventurers from across the trail running community. Participants can choose from a wide array of distances, including 52M, 50K, 26.2M, 30K, 13.1M, 9M, 10K, and 5K, with the challenging 52-mile ultra making its anticipated return for 2026.
The courses wind through mystical oak forests, endless meadows, and steep climbs across the Santa Clara Valley, Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Expect a predominantly trail surface, featuring a mix of fire roads, dirt roads, and ample single-track trails. Ultrarunners tackling the 52-mile and 50K distances will face over 15,000 feet of elevation gain, with the 52-mile race alone presenting approximately 12,500 feet of climbing, promising a truly demanding adventure not for the faint of heart. The reward for these efforts is breathtaking panoramic views of the Santa Clara Valley, extending to the Pacific and even the Sierra Nevada on a clear day from Mount Umunhum's summit.
Runners will find essential support along the route with well-stocked aid stations, including the primary Mockingbird Start/Finish Aid Station which doubles as a drop bag location, and additional stations at Hacienda, Woods Parking Lot, and the Mt. Umunhum & Barlow Trail Intersection. Toilets are conveniently located at the start/finish area and all aid stations. Typical race day conditions in early June offer highs around 78°F and lows around 55°F, with a minimal 1% chance of precipitation, creating ideal weather for tackling the varied and scenic terrain.
