About This Race

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of the Colorado mountains at the North Fork 50M/50K on May 30, 2026, in Pine, CO. This "gem of an ultramarathon" offers a pure ultra experience, intentionally kept small to provide personalized attention and an intimate connection with nature, free from crowds. The courses are 100% soft surface, predominantly stunning singletrack trails winding through the picturesque Buffalo Creek Recreation Area within the Pike National Forest.

Runners will traverse a diverse landscape, including serene pine forests and starkly beautiful burn areas from the 1996 Buffalo Creek fire, which offer breathtaking views of the high mountains and unique rock formations. The 50K course presents approximately 3,800 feet of climb, with elevations ranging from 6,700 to 8,100 feet, while the 50-mile challenge climbs roughly 6,425-7,500 feet, reaching maximum elevations around 8,500 feet. Despite the significant elevation, many sections are considered "quite runnable" for those accustomed to altitude, with climbs generally being gradual. The race starts and finishes at the charming Buffalo Park Improvement Association (BPIA) Community Hall, affectionately known as "Bippy," nestled along the rushing North Fork of the South Platte River.

Expect exceptional support along the way with five well-stocked aid stations for the 50K and seven for the 50M, offering water, Tailwind, soda, and an array of enticing foods like potato chips, pretzels, pickles, cookies, M&Ms, fruit, and even bean and tortilla rolls. The Buffalo aid station adds hearty options such as boiled potatoes and turkey wraps. Typical race day conditions often feature comfortable highs around 69°F and lows near 35°F, with a low 8% chance of precipitation, creating ideal running weather. Known for its friendly atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and generous time cutoffs, the North Fork 50M/50K is an excellent choice for both seasoned ultrarunners and those looking to tackle their first mountain ultramarathon. A portion of the race proceeds proudly benefits the North Fork Volunteer Fire Department, supporting the local community.
