Embark on an extraordinary challenge at the Stone Everest ATL, held on May 16, 2026, in the iconic Stone Mountain, Georgia. This unique event dares runners to conquer the equivalent elevation of Mount Everest or its Basecamp, all by repeatedly ascending and descending Stone Mountain's renowned Walk-Up Trail. Participants can choose between the formidable 72-mile "Everest Summit" challenge, requiring 36 ascents and descents, or the equally demanding 42-mile "Everest Basecamp" challenge, involving 21 laps. A relay option is also available for teams tackling the Everest Summit, making it a shared triumph.
The course itself is a journey across Georgia's famed granite dome. Each roughly one-mile ascent gains 825 feet in elevation, beginning with a gentle incline under tree cover before opening onto wide stretches of smooth, exposed rock. The trail presents a dynamic mix of steady slopes and short, steeper sections, providing a continuous test of endurance. Along the way, runners are treated to natural rock formations and expansive skies, culminating in breathtaking 360-degree panoramas from the summit, offering views stretching to downtown Atlanta. Experience the raw power and beauty of Stone Mountain as the sun rises and sets, painting the sky with unforgettable hues.
Over two days, from 6 AM Saturday to midnight Sunday (with a mountain closure from midnight to 5 AM), runners will push their limits in this relentless pursuit of elevation. A well-stocked main aid station at the mountain's base will offer essential support, including electrolyte mixes, fruits, PB&Js, pickles, chips, gels, energy gummies, chafe creams, and first aid, along with chairs for much-needed rest. At the summit, a volunteer will mark your lap completion, providing light snacks and minimal water. Typical race day conditions in mid-May bring highs around 81°F and lows around 59°F, with a minimal 13% chance of precipitation, ensuring a challenging yet potentially pleasant environment for this epic undertaking.
