Tail Wagger 5K

Lace up your running shoes and leash up your furry companion for the Tail Wagger 5K, returning to the scenic North Tahoe Regional Park in Tahoe Vista, CA, on May 30, 2026. This beloved annual event offers both a 5K and a 1-mile run, designed for runners of all paces and their canine best friends. You don't even need a dog to join the fun, as separate starts are offered for human-only participants. Typical race day conditions in late May bring comfortable highs around 63°F and lows near 37°F, with only a 4% chance of precipitation, providing ideal weather for a memorable outing.

The course itself is a highlight, featuring a clockwise loop through the park's diverse terrain. Runners will navigate a picturesque blend of dirt trails and a section of the paved Pam Emmerick Memorial Trail, winding through areas adorned with aspens and pines. With minimal elevation gain and a few charming creek crossings, the route offers a refreshing and engaging experience for both two-legged and four-legged athletes. Beyond the race, the Tail Wagger 5K is a true celebration, encompassing a vibrant expo, a vendor village, pet photo sessions, raffles, and other non-competitive activities for the entire family.

Praised as a "Pawsitively AWESOME Event" and "very well run and organized" by past participants, the Tail Wagger 5K consistently delivers a fantastic atmosphere that extends beyond just the run. Owned and operated by Big Blue Adventure, a local Lake Tahoe event company, this event is committed to creating positive experiences and lasting memories. All registrants receive a race bib, timing chip, recovery nutrition, a cold beverage, an event t-shirt, and a finishing prize, with dogs also getting their own bib and bandana. A portion of the proceeds also benefits the Pet Network Humane Society, supporting animals in need.
