Prepare to test your mettle at the annual Tough as Nails Trail Run, set for Saturday, May 16, 2026, in the stunning Prescott Park on Roxy Ann Peak in Medford, Oregon. This celebrated event offers both a challenging 10-mile course and a brisk 5K, inviting runners of all levels to experience some of Southern Oregon's finest trails.
The Tough as Nails lives up to its name, especially the 10-miler, which features approximately 1800 feet of elevation gain across a dynamic mix of scenic trails and gravel service roads, including some of Roxy Ann's newest paths. Prescott Park, known as one of Southern Oregon's largest and most beautiful nature parks, provides a breathtaking backdrop for your effort, with Roxy Ann Peak offering panoramic views of the park and the entire Rogue Valley. The 5K course offers a counter-clockwise loop around the service road, providing a faster, yet still invigorating, experience. Typical race day conditions in mid-May in Medford are pleasant, with highs around 75F and lows around 48F, and only a 4% chance of precipitation, ensuring ideal running weather.
Organized by the Southern Oregon Runners, the region's oldest and most active running club, Tough as Nails is more than just a race; it's a community event where proceeds benefit a local charity. Runners consistently praise the challenging yet rewarding nature of the course, often asking if it's the trails or the participants who are truly "Tough as Nails"—the answer is both. Expect a well-organized event with packet pick-up conveniently located at the start/finish line in the upper gravel parking lot at the base of Roxy Ann Peak. Participants in recent years have also enjoyed finisher socks, a practical and memorable token of their accomplishment.
