Lace up for a coastal running experience at the 17th Seashore Classic, returning to picturesque Lewes, Delaware, on May 2, 2026. This popular event offers a challenge for every pace, featuring a Half Marathon, a 2-person Half Marathon Relay, and a 5K Run/Walk. Runners will embark on an out-and-back journey, beginning and ending near the festive Irish Eyes Restaurant on Anglers Road, traversing historic downtown streets before winding into the breathtaking Cape Henlopen State Park. The Half Marathon course treats participants to scenic pathways through the park, including a unique double-loop section and views of historic military installations, ultimately reaching Gordon's Pond. The 5K, equally picturesque, turns around just before the park entrance. Both courses are celebrated for their largely flat terrain and crushed gravel paths, offering an excellent opportunity for a personal best amidst stunning natural beauty.
Runners can anticipate well-supported courses with three dedicated water stops for the Half Marathon, strategically placed at approximately miles 2, 4, and 6.55, with additional water available at the start and finish for all distances. Portable toilets are also conveniently located at the start/finish area and along the Half Marathon route. The Seashore Classic is renowned as a well-organized, smaller race, drawing participants from many states, some seeking to check Delaware off their 50-state running goal. Typical race day conditions in early May feature pleasant highs around 72F and lows around 51F, with only a 15% chance of precipitation, creating ideal running weather.
Beyond the race, participants will be rewarded with long-sleeve race shirts and finisher medals for individual Half Marathoners. The festive atmosphere continues with a lively post-race party at Irish Eyes Restaurant, offering refreshments like hotdogs, hamburgers, beer, and Bloody Marys, perfect for celebrating accomplishments. Age group trophies further recognize top performers, adding a competitive edge to this charming seaside event that supports the James J. Kiernan Memorial Scholarship.
