Embark on an unforgettable running adventure at the 2026 Acadia Half Marathon and 10K, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Maine's Acadia National Park. Taking place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in picturesque Bar Harbor, this event offers a unique opportunity to experience the rugged beauty of Mount Desert Island while tackling a challenging yet rewarding course. Typical race day conditions in early June boast comfortable highs around 68°F and lows near 49°F, with a modest 17% chance of precipitation, providing an ideal environment for a memorable race.
The half marathon distance truly shines, guiding runners through a spectacular 13.1-mile journey along the scenic Acadia National Park Loop road. This challenging course features varying elevation levels, including a significant ascent to the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the park's highest peak, rewarding participants with sweeping panoramic views of the park and surrounding islands before a satisfying descent. Runners will pass iconic landmarks such as Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Otter Cliff, experiencing Acadia's diverse terrain of forests, mountains, and rocky coastline. With an elevation change of just over 1000 feet, this is a race recommended for those who love amazing views and aren't afraid of hills. Six water stations are strategically placed along the half marathon course, approximately every two miles, offering water and Gatorade to keep you hydrated. The 10K also promises scenic beauty, though its course does not enter Acadia National Park, and includes two water stations.
Beyond the stunning scenery, the Acadia Half Marathon and 10K, hosted by the MDI YMCA, is one of only a couple of races of its kind held within Acadia National Park, making it a truly unique event. The race serves as a major fundraiser, supporting the YMCA's vital scholarship programs. In an effort towards environmental sustainability, participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable cups or hydration packs, though paper cups will still be available at all aid stations. Both races begin approximately a quarter-mile from the MDI YMCA on Livingston Ave and conclude on the adjacent ballfields. All finishers receive a medal, and half marathon participants, along with the first 150 registered 10K participants, also receive an event shirt. Please note that headphones and earbuds are not permitted due to park roads remaining open to traffic for safety. This capped event often sells out months in advance, so securing your spot early is recommended.
