Lace up your running shoes for a patriotic celebration at the 2026 Fireworks 5k/10k, set to light up Fairfax Station, VA, on July 4th. This popular event, hosted by Bishop's Events, offers runners a choice of a 5K or 10K distance through the scenic trails of Burke Lake Park. Participants can expect a refreshing journey, with the 5K course following a tree-lined, paved road suitable for strollers and wheelchairs, while the 10K ventures onto a 6.2-mile wooded trail that circles the picturesque lake. Both courses feature a combination of paved road for the first and last half-mile, transitioning to well-maintained trails with some roots and no major elevation gains, promising an engaging and enjoyable run.
As you conquer the course, you'll find ample support with water stations strategically placed along the route; the 10K boasts three stations (at approximately miles 0.5, 3.1, and 5.7), and the 5K provides two (around miles 0.5 and 2.6), with Gatorade available at some. Typical race day conditions in early July include highs around 85°F and lows near 66°F, with a 15% chance of precipitation, making for a warm yet potentially refreshing run. This holiday race is more than just a personal challenge; it proudly benefits Semper Fi & America's Fund, allowing you to contribute to a worthy cause with every stride.
Every finisher will be rewarded with a commemorative medal and a technical (Dri-Fit) event shirt to celebrate their achievement. The race offers chip timing for accurate results, with live results posted online via a convenient QR code. Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the first and second place in each age group. Walkers and strollers are warmly welcomed to join in the festivities, making it an inclusive event for all to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Burke Lake Park.
