2026 Handcart Days Races

Join the community celebration at the 2026 Handcart Days Races on July 25th in Bountiful, UT. This event is a cherished part of the annual Handcart Days Festival, commemorating the pioneers who settled the area and offering a spirited, family-friendly atmosphere. Runners can choose from a 5K or a 1K race, each designed to provide an engaging experience. Typical race day conditions in late July see highs around 88°F and lows around 68°F, with a low chance of precipitation. Early morning starts help runners beat the summer heat.

The 5K course is known for being fairly flat with all right-hand turns, making it accessible for many runners. While largely a neighborhood run, the 5K includes a gentle downhill start before transitioning to a gradual uphill climb in the latter half, offering a subtle challenge. An aid station halfway through the 5K course provides water, Gatorade, and first aid. For the youngest participants, the 1K race also features all right turns and is led by the enthusiastic Pioneer Pete, looping around the recreation center facility.

Starting and finishing near the South Davis Recreation Center, the Handcart Days Races are celebrated for their supportive environment and good value. Participants receive a custom race bib, a technical running shirt, and a unique finisher medal to commemorate their achievement. Post-race, runners can enjoy a variety of refreshments, including high-end donuts, fruit, and sports drinks.
