The 800-meter race involves a loop that starts slightly upstream, heads approximately 390 meters downriver, and then returns upstream to the finish, with the 1600-meter event completing two laps of this course. Swimmers should be confident in their open water abilities, as there may be a noticeable current when swimming against it. Typical race day conditions in late July feature warm temperatures, with highs around 89°F and lows around 68°F, along with a 19% chance of precipitation, making wetsuits legal if water temperatures are below 78°F.

French Creek Racing ensures a well-organized event with staggered wave starts beginning at 5:00 PM, including a main competitive heat at 6:30 PM. While no hydration or nutrition stops are provided on the course, kayakers and boat support will be present for safety, and participants are encouraged to bring their own pre-race fuel. However, be aware that onsite restroom and changing facilities are not available, with the nearest restrooms located about 600 meters away at the Betzwood trailhead.
