This thrilling 5.56-kilometer (3.45-mile) event offers a distinctive partial trail course that begins at the lively Brocks Gap Brewing Company, winds through the picturesque Black Creek Mountain Bike Park, and concludes back at the brewery. As a nighttime run, participants are required to carry a headlamp or flashlight, adding an adventurous twist to the experience. Strollers are not permitted on the trail sections to ensure safety. Typical race day conditions in early March often feature comfortable highs around 66F and lows near 43F, with a modest 19% chance of precipitation; rest assured, the race proceeds rain or shine.

What truly sets this race apart is its challenging "Heavy Division," where participants can opt to complete the course while carrying a 35 lb. vest or ruck, with a mandatory post-race weight check for award eligibility. Teams of four can also tackle the "Team Heavy Division," requiring them to finish together. Limited to just 300 runners, the 5.56K Run/Ruck promises a high-quality, intimate event with a strong sense of camaraderie. A single water station is available at the trail's entrance, accessible both entering and exiting, and restrooms are conveniently located at the start line and Brocks Gap Brewery.
