About This Race

Prepare for an unforgettable trail experience at the Above the Clouds Ultra, set to take place on October 3, 2026, in the scenic "City Above the Clouds," Woodland Park, Colorado. Offering both a challenging 50K ultra and a spirited 10K, this annual event is renowned as a Colorado fall classic, promising breathtaking vistas and an invigorating atmosphere. Runners can anticipate typical race day conditions with pleasant highs around 58°F and lows near 31°F, with only a 5% chance of precipitation, creating ideal running weather as the Colorado fall colors burst to life.

The 50K course is an adventure designed to immerse participants in the heart of the Rockies. Beginning at the Merit Academy (or Woodland Park Middle School), the route immediately ascends Lovell Gulch to Rampart Range Road, where ultra runners are greeted with spectacular sweeping views of Pikes Peak, often referred to as "America's Mountain". The journey continues along the "fast and furious singletrack" encircling Rampart Reservoir before connecting to the rarely traveled 700.A National Forest trail. With an impressive elevation gain of approximately 4,137 feet and a maximum elevation around 9,406 feet, the course features a diverse mix of singletrack, quiet National Forest roads, and panoramic mountain views, culminating in a descent back to the cheering crowds at the finish line.

Organized by Revenant Running, known for fostering a positive and uplifting community, the Above the Clouds Ultra provides well-stocked aid stations to support runners throughout their effort. While pacing is prohibited, 50K participants can arrange crewing at designated accessible aid stations. This race offers a unique combination of stunning autumn scenery, technical trail challenges, and panoramic mountain views that make it a truly memorable Colorado running experience.
