Embark on an unforgettable Alaskan adventure at the Alaska Salmon Runs in Cordova, AK, on July 18, 2026. This extraordinary event offers a unique opportunity to experience the stunning natural beauty of a wild Alaskan commercial fishing village while challenging yourself across distances including a 26.2M marathon, 13.1M half-marathon, 6.2M, 3.1M, and a 1M fun run. The race is inspired by Irene Webber, who ran the first King Salmon Marathon in 1986, and proudly honors the five species of salmon native to the region, a keystone species integral to the local ecosystem.

The course itself is a highlight, mostly flat as it follows the historic Copper River railroad route, offering runners breathtaking scenery at sea level. The marathon begins at the 27 Mile Bridge, traversing gravel roads with minimal traffic through wild areas where moose and bears are occasionally sighted. As you progress, the route transitions to paved roads, showcasing the vibrant wildflowers of the Copper River delta, including lupine and Alaska's state flower, the forget-me-not. The final 10 kilometers of the race provide picturesque views along the serene blue waters of Eyak Lake. Aid stations are strategically placed every 4-5 miles, beginning at mile 5 for marathoners, ensuring runners are well-supported throughout their journey, with porta-potties and USFS bathrooms available at various points. Typical race day conditions in mid-July feature comfortable highs around 62°F and lows around 48°F, with a 23% chance of precipitation.

Runners frequently praise the event for its incredible scenery and the unique chance to immerse themselves in a thriving ecosystem during the salmon migration. The start and finish lines for all distances are conveniently located at the Cordova Community Medical Center parking lot, which also serves as race headquarters. Join participants from around the globe who return year after year for this special race in one of Alaska's most beautiful and welcoming communities.
