Get ready for a unique challenge with the AMNACS Ruck Race, set for May 16, 2026, in the scenic landscape of Sheridan, WY. This distinctive endurance event invites participants to run, walk, or jog while carrying a weighted ruck, honoring military tradition and supporting a vital cause. Now in its fourth year, the AMNACS Ruck Race has become a signature community event, with all proceeds benefiting Veteran Village - AMNACS, a non-profit dedicated to providing housing for homeless and in-need veterans in Sheridan County.
The race offers two distances, approximately 5 miles and 10 miles, utilizing the beautiful Sheridan County Land Trust Trail System. Both races kick off from Black Tooth Park on W. 5th St.. The 5-mile course includes a loop around Hidden Hoot, while the more challenging 10-mile route traverses Soldier Ridge Trail, Kicking Horse Trail, The Link, and Hidden Hoot, promising varied terrain for trail running enthusiasts. Participants can choose between lightweight (15-30 lbs) and heavyweight (35-55 lbs) divisions, not including water, as well as military dress and civilian categories, adding an extra layer of challenge and camaraderie. Typical race day conditions in mid-May often feature comfortable highs around 66F and lows around 39F, with a low 12% chance of precipitation, providing ideal weather for hitting the trails.
Beyond the physical test, the AMNACS Ruck Race fosters a strong sense of community and purpose. Following the race, all participants are invited to a post-race celebration featuring food, fellowship, and opportunities to engage with local veteran-owned businesses, event sponsors, and veteran service organizations. This event is more than just a race; it's a meaningful opportunity to connect with the community, challenge yourself on Wyoming's picturesque trails, and contribute directly to the well-being of local veterans.
