Beyond the varied footing, runners are treated to breathtaking vistas of towering Moab cliffs, the iconic Arches National Park, and the distant, snow-capped La Sal Mountains, with the unique thrill of passing ancient dinosaur tracks in Utah Raptor State Park.
Historically, typical race day conditions in late January present crisp highs around 47F and lows around 22F, with a minimal 3% chance of precipitation, creating ideal cool-weather running. Aid stations are strategically placed throughout the courses, offering a generous array of water, electrolytes, gels, sandwiches, chips, and even hot apple cider, all supported by a cupless policy encouraging runners to bring their own reusable cups. Organized by the highly regarded Mad Moose Events, the Arches Ultra provides a well-marked course and a supportive atmosphere, consistently earning praise from runners for its outstanding views, challenging elements, and overall exceptional experience. All races begin and conclude at the Gemini Bridges Trailhead, just north of Moab, with carpooling strongly encouraged due to limited parking.
