This unique event, often touted as the "original" winter ultra in the region, challenges runners to complete as many loops as possible within their chosen timeframe: 6-hour, 12-hour, or the ultimate 20-hour endurance test. Participants can tackle the demanding course solo or as part of a four-person relay team, with the field capped at 160 runners, ensuring an intimate and competitive atmosphere that typically sells out fast.

The ARKTOS course promises a true trail running adventure, winding through hilly terrain with elevation gains of approximately 2500-7500 feet over 50 miles, featuring sections with rocks, roots, and ruts. Typical race day conditions in late February see highs around 35°F and lows around 17°F, with a 10% chance of precipitation, inviting runners to confront the elements and feel truly alive amidst the quiet, wind-swept woods. The "ARKTOS Village" at the main trailhead serves as the hub, offering warming shelters, including a cabin, and bottomless hot drinks to keep you fueled and warm. A free meal, with a vegan chili option, is also provided.
