Embark on a vibrant 5K journey at the Asbury Park Sheehan Classic, taking place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in the iconic coastal city of Asbury Park, NJ. This highly anticipated event, presented by the Shore Athletic Club, boasts a flat, fast, and USATF-certified 2-loop course that promises an exhilarating race experience for both seasoned competitors and casual runners. The race kicks off with an Opening Ceremony at Bradley Park, guiding participants through the lively streets of Asbury Park, along Ocean Avenue, and culminating in a memorable finish on the famous Asbury Park Boardwalk.

The Asbury Park Sheehan Classic is renowned for its competitive atmosphere and historic roots, evolving from the original Asbury Park 10K Classic established in 1981 and later honoring Dr. George Sheehan. Runners can expect typical race day conditions in early August to feature highs around 86F and lows near 65F, with a 17% chance of precipitation, making for a warm but potentially refreshing coastal run. Beyond the challenging course, participants are rewarded with soft cotton tie-dye race shirts for the first 1,200 pickups, and the first 1,000 to collect their bibs will also receive a drink ticket for the local favorite, Robinson Ale House.

This family-friendly event also includes age-based kids' races, ensuring a fun day for all. Competitive runners will vie for over $1300 in cash prizes distributed among the top five overall male and female finishers, along with custom Sheehan Classic awards, including beach towels, for age group winners.
