About This Race

Prepare for an unforgettable challenge in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest at the Baldface Scramble on July 25, 2026, in Chatham, NH. This epic trail race offers two demanding distances, a 29K and a 14K, designed to test your limits with a combination of steep ledges, exhilarating rock scrambling, and breathtaking panoramic views. Starting from the scenic Baldface Farm in Evans Notch, runners can expect typical race day conditions to feature highs around 82F and lows around 59F, with a modest 17% chance of precipitation.

The Baldface Scramble courses are renowned for their technical terrain and significant elevation gains, making it a standout event within the White Mountain Endurance Cup series. The 14K runners will tackle a single, rigorous loop over the Baldfaces, ascending approximately 3,479 feet and navigating exposed granite slabs and exciting scrambles before descending the Bicknell Ridge Trail. For those opting for the 29K, the challenge intensifies with a second loop over Mount Meader, bringing the total elevation gain to an impressive 6,226 feet. This race is recommended for experienced mountain runners or those who have completed similarly hilly and technical trail races of at least 10 miles.

Adding to the unique experience, the event operates as a cupless race, requiring participants to carry their own hydration systems and mandatory gear including 2 liters of fluid, 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, and an emergency blanket. While the 14K route has no on-course aid stations, 29K participants will find a fully stocked aid station at the start/finish area, which they will pass through around mile 8.6 before embarking on their second loop. Friends and family are encouraged to gather at the Baldface Farm start/finish line to cheer on runners and join the lively post-race celebration.
