Battle on the Bayou 8.5 mile & Half the Battle 4 mile

Prepare for a unique challenge on the brackish waters of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, at the "Battle on the Bayou 8.5 mile & Half the Battle 4 mile" paddle race on Sunday, March 22, 2026. This fiercely competitive event invites canoes, kayaks, and SUPs to test their mettle in an "every person for themselves" battle, particularly in the shorter "Half the Battle" 4-mile distance. Expect typical race day conditions to be pleasant, with highs around 73°F and lows around 54°F, and only a 13% chance of precipitation, providing an ideal environment for a spirited race.

Both the 8.5-mile "Battle on the Bayou" and the 4-mile "Half the Battle" courses are engaging out-and-back routes on Old Fort Bayou, starting and finishing conveniently at the Gulf Hills Hotel and Conference Center. The scenic bayou, known for its natural curves, marshes, and stunning views, offers a picturesque backdrop for paddlers. While the 8.5-mile course has been thoughtfully adjusted to avoid a marsh island at the start/finish, both distances promise a challenging and rewarding experience without the need for shuttles. Participants with recreational craft are particularly encouraged to tackle the 4-mile distance.

Beyond the course, the Battle on the Bayou ensures a memorable experience for all. Every finisher receives a custom medallion, with complete place awards presented for both distances. Participants will also receive a comfort-fit tank top, and a post-race lunch featuring a Burger Box awaits to refuel warriors after their efforts.
