Lace up for the 42nd Annual Bear Run 5K, set to take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in the scenic community of Maple Valley, Washington. This cherished 5K run and walk offers participants a moderately hilly yet engaging course that winds through the picturesque landscape. Starting and finishing within Lake Wilderness Park, runners will enjoy wooded lakeside trails, alongside jaunts through residential areas and back roads, providing a diverse and refreshing experience. Typical race day conditions in late June boast pleasant highs around 72F and lows around 50F, with only a 10% chance of precipitation, creating ideal running weather.
The Bear Run 5K is renowned for its family-friendly atmosphere and commitment to community, with proceeds directly benefiting the Tahoma High School distance running programs. While there won't be water stations along the course, participants can look forward to water and snacks available at the finish line to refuel. Runners are welcome to use jogging strollers on the course, making it a great event for families, though dogs are not permitted (with the exception of service dogs).
Beyond the beautiful scenery, this USATF-certified course provides chip timing for accurate results and offers a unique reward system. First-place finishers in each age division will earn the coveted "Bear Run Bear," while second and third place recipients will take home "Bear Run Bells." Special awards are also given to the top three overall men and women, adding a competitive edge to the supportive environment. Packet pickup is available prior to race day at Road Runner Sports in Kent or on race day morning at Lake Wilderness Park, where ample parking is available, and carpooling is encouraged.
