Lace up for speed and an unforgettable post-race feast at the 22nd Annual Beef and Eggs 5K, returning to Brookings, SD, on July 11, 2026. Billed as "South Dakota's Fastest 5K," this USATF-certified course is a magnet for top collegiate and regionally elite road racers, while simultaneously offering a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. The race also proudly serves as the USATF Dakotas Association 5K Road Race Championships, adding an extra layer of competitive excitement.
The course itself is a highlight, promising a fast and shaded journey through the charming streets of downtown and residential Brookings. Runners will navigate a well-marked route with light traffic, passing scenic landmarks like Pioneer Park, the children's museum, and Hillcrest Park. While predominantly flat, the course features a gradual uphill section through Hillcrest Park before a rewarding downhill stretch to the finish line, which is located near the Brookings County Courthouse. Typical race day conditions in early July include highs around 82°F and lows around 61°F, with a minimal 13% chance of precipitation, setting the stage for ideal running weather.
Beyond the challenge of the 5K, the Beef and Eggs race stands out for its unique runner perks. Participants can look forward to a specially designed race-day T-shirt, eligibility for door prizes, and age group medals for the top three finishers. For those vying for top honors, over $1,200 in cash prizes are awarded to the fastest three male and female runners, complemented by a $100 course record bonus. The experience culminates with a complete "Beef and Eggs" breakfast served immediately after the race, providing the perfect way to refuel and celebrate your accomplishment. A free Kids Fun Run is also available for younger enthusiasts, making it a true community event.
