Embark on an unforgettable trail adventure at the Berryman 50 mile and Marathon Trail Races on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in the heart of Potosi, MO. Hosted by the dedicated St. Louis Ultrarunners Group, this historic event takes runners deep into the Mark Twain National Forest along the renowned Berryman Trail, a designated National Recreation Trail since 1980. Choose your challenge: conquer one approximately 26.4-mile single-track loop for the Marathon, or double the intensity with two loops for the 50-mile race, which actually covers closer to 53 miles of exhilarating terrain.
The course is a true Ozark gem, featuring a moderately technical, continuously hilly profile with an elevation gain/loss of roughly 2500 feet per loop. Runners will navigate through scenic oak, pine, and hardwood forests, encountering plenty of rocks and roots, as well as multiple stream crossings. Prepare for wet feet, especially at Brazil Creek, which is typically shin-deep. Aid stations are strategically placed every 5 to 6 miles, offering Hylē sports drink, water, soda, and a variety of ultra snacks; however, this is a cupless event, so runners must carry their own hydration vessels. Typical race day conditions in mid-May present comfortable highs around 74F and lows around 54F, with a 22% chance of precipitation, creating a dynamic environment for a challenging run.
The race starts and finishes at the primitive Berryman Campground, offering a genuine back-to-nature experience. This community-focused event, established in 2000, is celebrated for its supportive atmosphere and the dedication of its volunteers. Runners often praise the well-maintained trails and the rewarding feeling of tackling the relentless, rolling terrain. For 2026, the 50-mile distance awards 3 ITRA points, and the Marathon awards 1. Embrace the beauty and challenge of the Berryman Trail and become part of its storied history.
