About This Race

Prepare for an unforgettable challenge at the Big Butts Trail Run, set to take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in Jackson, MS. Hosted by the Mississippi Ultra and Trail Society (MUTS), this endurance event offers individual 100K and 50K distances, alongside a 100K relay option, promising a demanding yet rewarding experience on the historic Mississippi College Choctaw Trails.

The course is designed around non-technical, 7.75-mile loops featuring mostly single-track trails through cross country and Butts Park. Runners will navigate a few small hills, accumulating approximately 170 feet of elevation gain per loop, with much of the route offering welcome shade. However, the true test of the Big Butts race lies in the typical race day conditions of late July, where highs can reach around 92°F and lows hover near 73°F, with a 15% chance of precipitation, creating a significant challenge with Mississippi's renowned heat and humidity. This formidable combination has made the 100K distance a rare accomplishment, known for pushing participants to their limits.

Two aid stations, one at the start/finish pavilion and another on the course, will be stocked with water, Tailwind sports drink, and a variety of sweet and salty foods. Runners are required to carry personal hydration, and the start/finish area provides ample space to set up personal aid, tents, and coolers. While there are no finisher medals, top male and female finishers in each individual race and the leading relay team will receive custom awards, with a special $100 incentive for any 100K runner who can break the existing course record of 9:42:43. The Big Butts is more than just a race; it's an opportunity to discover your resilience on the challenging trails of Jackson.
