This fully supported event offers cyclists three distances: a challenging 100-mile race, a robust 50-mile option, and a scenic 22-mile route which can also be enjoyed as a tour or e-bike ride. All courses wind through the immense landscapes of Carbon County, along the foothills of the majestic Beartooth Mountains, promising breathtaking views of the Beartooth, Absaroka, and Pryor Mountain Ranges.
The course is renowned for its diverse gravel roads. Even the 22-mile course presents a respectable 1,200 feet of elevation gain across its 70% gravel terrain. Riders will find ample support along the way, with marked routes, GPS guidance, and hydration stations providing water and electrolytes. For those tackling the 100-mile race, drop bag locations are available at miles 8, 31, 60, and 86. Typical race day conditions in late August in Red Lodge offer pleasant weather, with highs around 81°F and lows near 48°F, and only a 3% chance of precipitation.
The Big Sky Gravel experience begins and ends at The Roosevelt Center in downtown Red Lodge, a convenient location adjacent to local accommodations. Beyond the ride, participants can look forward to festive finish line food, a unique rider gift, and a swag bag to commemorate their achievement. The event fosters a vibrant atmosphere, encouraging cyclists and their families to explore the area's hiking, biking, fishing, and disc golf opportunities, and to take in the local amenities of Red Lodge.
