Get ready to outrun the Blob at the Blobfest Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K on July 12, 2026, in historic Phoenixville, Pennsylvania! This unique race is more than just a run; it's a celebration of the classic 1958 sci-fi horror film, "The Blob," which famously featured Phoenixville's Colonial Theatre. Runners will be immersed in the quirky spirit of Blobfest, with Blob-themed finisher medals and a course decoration contest featuring monster-themed displays to keep you entertained. A portion of your registration goes directly to support the iconic Colonial Theatre, making every stride a step towards preserving cinematic history.
The Half Marathon course offers a scenic yet challenging experience. Starting and finishing near the Colonial Theatre on Bridge Street, the route largely follows the paved Schuylkill River Trail. The initial miles provide picturesque, shaded stretches along the river, a welcome reprieve as typical race day conditions can reach highs around 85°F. However, be prepared for some significant elevation changes in the latter half, with two "giant hills" encountered in both directions that test your resolve, especially around miles 11 and 12 under the summer sun.
With runner safety in mind, the Half Marathon kicks off at 7:00 AM to mitigate the heat, and a strict 3:30 cut-off time is enforced. Water stops are strategically placed throughout the course, including at miles 1.3, 3, 4.3, 6.8, 7.6, 9.3, and 11.7 for Half Marathoners, though bringing your own hydration is encouraged. Should the heat prove too much on race day, flexible options allow you to drop down to the 10K or 5K. After crossing the finish line, celebrate your escape from the Blob with cold water and ice-filled baby pools, a perfect way to cool down. Parking is available at Phoenixville Middle School with shuttle service, and carpooling is highly recommended due to limited spaces near the start/finish.
