Get ready for a unique and charming 5K experience at the annual Bug Run 5K in picturesque Belfast, Maine, set for Saturday, August 8, 2026. This beloved event, a true "Harbor Fest Tradition," offers a scenic and fairly flat course perfect for runners of all abilities, from those chasing a personal best to families enjoying a healthy run/walk together.

The 5K route guides participants through shaded neighborhoods and offers stunning waterfront views, including a memorable stretch across the Armistice Foot Bridge spanning the Passagassawaukeag River. With only a few gentle hills, the course provides an enjoyable challenge with beautiful scenery throughout. A single water stop will be available to keep runners hydrated. On race day, expect typical summer conditions with highs around 77°F and lows around 58°F, accompanied by a 14% chance of precipitation. The race begins at 8:00 a.m. from the parking lot at Union and Miller Streets, where packet pick-up will also be available from 7:15-7:45 a.m.

What truly sets the Bug Run 5K apart is its distinctive Maine flavor. Top male and female finishers are awarded 10 pounds of live lobsters – affectionately known as "bugs" in Maine – a nod to the race's playful name. All registered runners also receive a complimentary ticket to the popular Belfast Harbor Fest blueberry pancake breakfast, adding a delicious reward to your race day efforts. Being part of the RunBelfast race series, the Bug Run 5K is more than just a race; it's a vibrant community event that embodies the spirit of Belfast.
