About This Race

Prepare for a true test of grit and endurance at the Call of the Wilds Mountain Fest, set to challenge runners on October 24, 2026, in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds near Jersey Shore, PA. Offering formidable distances of 50K, 25K, and 10K, this event, presented by the PA Trail Dogs, is renowned for its demanding courses and breathtaking fall foliage. Typical race day conditions in late October include pleasant highs around 60°F and lows around 38°F, with a mere 14% chance of precipitation, creating ideal cool-weather running.

The courses are anything but beginner-friendly, traversing some of Pennsylvania's toughest trails, with approximately 95% on un-paved surfaces. Runners will navigate a diverse network of trails, including Mid State, Spiked Buck, Tiadaghton, Pesto, and Panther Run, all leading to the infamous Torbert Trail. Expect significant elevation gains, with the 25K boasting over 5,000 feet of vertical ascent and the 50K climbing approximately 8,000 feet. The final four miles culminate in the challenge of Torbert, followed by a rewarding downhill stretch to the finish on Panther Run. Past participants consistently rate the difficulty, scenery, and production with five stars, with one runner praising the 25K as "unmatched in Pennsylvania" and incredibly beautiful.

Starting and finishing at the scenic Little Pine State Park in Waterville, PA, the Call of the Wilds Mountain Fest promises a well-supported experience. Aid stations are celebrated for their quality food, beverages, and enthusiastic costumed volunteers. After conquering the rugged terrain, runners are welcomed at the finish line with food and drink to celebrate their achievement. This race, a staple since 2014 and part of the "Rocksylvania" series, offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant autumn beauty of the Pennsylvania Wilds while pushing your limits on exceptionally challenging trails.
