The Caspian Challenge, celebrating its 15th anniversary on July 26, 2026, invites runners to experience the breathtaking beauty of Greensboro, Vermont, through its challenging 6.8-mile Lake Loop and a scenic 5K. Both races begin and conclude at Tolman Corner at the ball field, located at the intersection of Lake Shore Road and Breezy Avenue, the heart of this vibrant community event.
The signature 6.8-mile Lake Loop offers a picturesque journey around Caspian Lake, starting on pavement through historic Greensboro Village before transitioning to rolling dirt roads. Runners will trace the eastern shore of the lake, tackling an uphill climb to the Highland Lodge, where the first water station awaits. Subsequent water stops are strategically placed on North Shore Road and near the 5.3-mile mark on Lake Shore Road, ensuring hydration throughout this classic rolling course. The 5K is a flatter, out-and-back route along Lake Shore Road, featuring a water station at its halfway point and offering charming views of the lake. Typical race day conditions for late July feature pleasant highs around 77°F and lows around 57°F, with a modest 21% chance of precipitation, creating ideal summer running weather.
Beyond the challenge, the Caspian Challenge is a cornerstone of community spirit. Sponsored by the Greensboro Association, all proceeds from the event directly benefit Greensboro Community Projects. Participants can look forward to refreshments, including ice cream and bananas, at the finish line, and age-group winners are honored with a unique laser-etched collectible glass. As race director Eric Hanson aptly puts it, "Win or not, you get your money's worth out of the Caspian Lake Loop!" Join fellow enthusiasts for a morning of exercise, stunning scenery, and meaningful community support.
