About This Race

Lace up for the Cedro Peak Trail Run, an unforgettable event set in the stunning Cibola National Forest in Tijeras, New Mexico, on April 18, 2026. Offering challenging 50K and 25K distances, this race is celebrated for its deep community roots, often described as "put on by runners for runners" by its dedicated local organizers and volunteers. Expect ideal running weather, with typical race day conditions boasting highs around 72°F and lows near 44°F, and only a 2% chance of precipitation.

The adventure begins at the scenic Oak Flats Picnic Area, where both courses immerse runners in a diverse tapestry of ponderosa pine, pinon, and juniper forests, scrub oak, and open meadows. The terrain is a dynamic mix of primarily single track and jeep dirt trails, featuring rolling sections, steep but short climbs, and occasional technical rocky stretches, along with fast, non-technical runs. With routes situated above 7,000 feet, runners will be treated to breathtaking views of the Sandia and Manzano Mountains. The 25K course covers approximately 16 miles with 1,467 feet of elevation gain, while the 50K tackles around 32.1 miles and 2,934 feet of elevation gain over two loops of the 25K course, with the second loop run in reverse.

Cedro Peak maintains a reputation as an accessible challenge, suitable for both burgeoning ultra-runners and seasoned trail veterans. The event ensures a well-supported experience with multiple well-stocked aid stations offering sweet and salty snacks, electrolytes, and water. Please note this is a cupless race, so runners are required to carry their own hydration containers. For 50K participants, drop bags are available at the Oak Flats Aid Station at mile 16. While the course is meticulously marked, runners are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the route due to numerous intersections in the Cedro area. Finishers are rewarded with a race t-shirt, a unique finisher award, professional photography, and post-race refreshments, cementing Cedro Peak as a beloved fixture in the New Mexico trail running calendar.
