Get ready to "Get Your Cheese On!" at the Cheesetown Challenge, a beloved Michigan tradition held annually on June 20, 2026, in Pinconning, MI. Offering a 5-mile run and a 2-mile run/walk, this event is celebrated as "One of Michigan's Top 50 Races" and is perfectly timed with the lively CheeseTown Festival. Runners can also take on the "Iron Cheese" challenge by completing both distances, or cheer on the "Little Meeces" in their own race. With a 6:00 PM start time, you can even enjoy a morning race elsewhere before joining the evening festivities.
The Cheesetown Challenge boasts a fast and flat course, entirely on roads with "no hills or obstacles to contend with," making it ideal for setting a new personal record. While the course is described as potentially "boring and probably hot," the real draw is the incredible finish line experience. Typical race day conditions in June see highs around 80°F and lows around 59°F, with a 12% chance of precipitation, so prepare for a warm, potentially humid run. Cross the finish line at Doc Letchfield Park to be greeted by an expansive aid station featuring "Pizza, yogurt parfaits, 5 different fruits, homemade cookies, popsicles, ice cream sandwiches," and, of course, "World Famous Pinconning Cheese for All!" All participants receive a special design medal, and age group awards are also presented.
What truly sets the Cheesetown Challenge apart is its vibrant atmosphere as part of the larger CheeseTown Festival. The races start and finish at Doc Letchfield Park, which serves as the hub for festival vendors, kids' activities, live music, and food. Stick around after your race for a free fireworks show just after sunset, making for a truly memorable evening. Beyond the fun, all profits from the Cheesetown Challenge races are donated back to the community, supporting beneficiaries like the Boys & Girls Club and the Pinconning High School Track & Field program.
