About This Race

Lace-up for an unforgettable trail running experience at the Cheyenne Mountain Trail Race on April 25, 2026, in scenic Colorado Springs, CO. Offering distances for every trail enthusiast, including a challenging 50K, a robust 25K, a spirited 7M, and an accessible 4M, this race promises a journey through some of the Front Range's most beautiful trails. Runners will traverse grassy meadows and delve into dark timber stands, all set against the majestic backdrop of Cheyenne Mountain. The courses, which are 100% unpaved, are renowned for being very runnable with just enough technical sections and "well-placed rocks" to keep you engaged. Expect typical race day conditions in late April to be pleasant, with highs around 62F and lows near 35F, and a low chance of precipitation.

The longer 50K and 25K races feature a unique "figure eight" layout, ensuring runners pass the start/finish area and main aid station multiple times. This design provides valuable drop-bag access for 50K participants three times and once for 25K runners, making strategic fueling and gear management easier. Starting at approximately 6,000 feet at the Limekiln Trailhead, the 50K race boasts an elevation gain of around 3,700 to 4,000 feet, with a high point of 6,800 feet. Aid stations along the route are well-stocked with water, Gatorade, and plenty of food to keep you energized. Beyond the race, participants appreciate the supportive atmosphere, the included tech T-shirt and coffee mug, and the welcoming environment at Cheyenne Mountain State Park, which offers ample parking and a playground for families.

More than just a race, the Cheyenne Mountain Trail Race holds a special place in the community as it proudly benefits Achilles Pikes Peak, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping athletes with disabilities enjoy active lives on the trails. This commitment to inclusivity allows Achilles athletes and their guides to participate for free, embodying the spirit of the running community. With a history dating back to 2011, this event is celebrated for its well-organized production, beautiful scenery, and its focus on providing a rewarding experience for all runners.
