Lace up for an exhilarating journey at the Cliffs of the Neuse Trail Run and Hike on March 21, 2026, in La Grange, NC. This sixth annual spring event offers a diverse challenge for every trail enthusiast, with distances including a 50K ultra, a 25K (new for 2026), and spirited 8M and 4M runs, plus a 4M hike option. Runners can anticipate ideal race day conditions, with typical highs around 68F and lows around 44F, and only an 11% chance of precipitation.
The course promises an engaging experience, largely featuring beautiful single and double track trails with minimal gravel. You'll navigate curvy trails with significant elevation changes, including a 4-mile loop with about 225 feet of gain, an 8-mile course with approximately 425 feet, and 25K/50K laps each boasting around 450 feet of elevation. Recent improvements for 2025/2026 have enhanced the flow by eliminating major stairs and reducing dirt road sections, with loops designed counter-clockwise to tackle inclines early. Throughout your run, take in breathtaking views of the river and lake, picturesque bridges, and glimpses of the majestic 90-foot cliffs that give the park its name, all winding through diverse mixed pine and hardwood forests.
The race starts and finishes conveniently at the big picnic shelter by the lake parking lot, offering ample parking and real bathrooms. Aid stations are strategically placed to support all distances: the 4M race includes water at mile 2, while the 8M race has water at miles 2 and 6. For 25K and 50K participants, comprehensive aid stations await at the start/finish of each lap, with additional water and restrooms twice per lap, providing essentials like water, Tailwind, Coke, bananas, pickles, and chips. Finishers who register on time will receive a sustainable wood medal, and 50K participants are treated to a pair of trusty socks. The post-race celebration fosters camaraderie with delicious gluten-free and plant-based cookies and a small meal.
