Ascend to new heights at the Cloudcroft Ultra, set for August 22, 2026, in the scenic Sacramento Mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. This exhilarating event offers a challenging 53K ultra, along with 9.5-mile, 4.75-mile, and 1-mile Kids' Dash options, ensuring a race for every skill level. Held at an impressive altitude of approximately 8,600 feet, runners will experience crisp mountain air and stunning vistas from the historic Rim Trail (T105), a unique path combining old Indian routes, railroad grades, and logging trails.
The majority of the course winds through shaded stands of fir, pine, and quaking aspen, offering a refreshing canopy as you tackle the varied terrain. Prepare for sections of "gnarly rocks, roots, and gullies" balanced with smoother, more runnable stretches. The 53K route, part of the Sacramento Mountains Ultra Series, notably features a challenging "lollipop loop" at its turnaround point, boasting incredible views and significant elevation changes. Throughout the race, runners can anticipate spectacular views of the Tularosa Basin, stretching over 4,000 feet below, at various points along the trail. The 53K course includes six well-stocked aid stations, allowing for drop bags at approximately miles 13 and 20, with crew access points available.
All races commence and conclude at the Pavilion in Zenith Park. With typical race day conditions seeing highs around 92°F and lows around 66°F, and a minimal 8% chance of precipitation, runners should be prepared for a warm but potentially dry mountain run. Participants consistently praise the well-marked course and the enthusiastic volunteers at aid stations, contributing to a memorable and supportive race atmosphere. Finishers of the 53K and 9.5-mile races receive awards, and all entries include a technical t-shirt and post-race food.
