Corps of Discovery Trail Races

Lace up your trail shoes and embark on an unforgettable adventure at the Corps of Discovery Trail Races, set for August 29, 2026, in the stunning Weldon Spring Conservation Area of St. Charles, MO. This annual event, hosted by the St. Louis Track Club since 2013, invites runners to conquer the very paths of Lewis & Clark, offering a unique blend of challenging terrain and historical immersion. Choose your journey with distances including a Half Marathon (13.1M) and a 5 Mile option.

The courses wind through nearly 8,400 acres of rugged upland forests and steep wooded bluffs, promising lush woodlands, challenging climbs, and breathtaking views of the Missouri River. Half Marathon participants will first tackle the 8-mile Lewis Trail before transitioning to the 5-mile Clark Trail, while 5-mile runners complete a single loop of the Clark Trail. Expect "lots of hills" and "challenging hills" as you traverse hardwood-lined ridges and hollows, with volunteers and clear markings guiding you along the counter-clockwise course from the Lewis & Clark trailhead. Typical race day conditions in late August feature average highs around 87°F and lows around 67°F, with a 12% chance of precipitation.

The Corps of Discovery Trail Races is a "CUP FREE" event, requiring runners to carry their own water receptacle to fill at aid stations stocked with water and Tailwind electrolyte drink, alongside various snacks. The 5-mile race includes one manned aid station at mile 3, while the Half Marathon (and 8-mile portion) benefits from an unmanned water station around mile 4 and a manned station at mile 6.5. Starting at 8:00 a.m. from the Lewis & Clark trailhead, with packet pickup near the parking area, this race promises a demanding yet rewarding experience that connects you with nature and the spirit of exploration.
