About This Race

Prepare for an epic challenge high in the San Juan Mountains with the Creede 50/100, set for July 25, 2026, in the historic mining town of Creede, Colorado. This 100-mile ultra, organized by Tempest Adventures, is renowned as one of North America's highest average elevation races, with much of its challenging 106.5-mile course staying above 11,000 feet and an average elevation of 11,359 feet. Runners will tackle approximately 20,822 feet of elevation gain across rugged terrain, including pristine single track, dirt roads, and grassy tundra, all while soaking in breathtaking mountain vistas. The course will lead you across 25 miles of the Continental Divide and descend into the birthplace of the Rio Grande River.

The Creede 100 is designed for the self-sufficient adventurer, demanding experience in rugged outdoor conditions and preparedness for varying weather and potential wildlife encounters with bears, mountain lions, and cows. While the course is well-marked, a strong understanding of the route is crucial. Aid stations, though strategically placed along the challenging route, can be very far apart for crews, sometimes requiring hours of travel. These stations are well-stocked with a diverse menu, including hot meals like hash browns, grilled cheese, and ramen, alongside fruit, chips, and Skratch hydration, though runners should plan to carry their own gels and chews.

Race day conditions typically see highs around 89°F and lows around 57°F, with a slight 6% chance of precipitation, but runners should be prepared for drastic and sudden weather changes at high altitudes, including cold nights even in July. The race begins and ends right in the town of Creede, where packet pickup and drop bag drop-off take place behind the Kentucky Belle Market on race morning. Finishers of this brutal yet rewarding "low-key ultra experience" earn a hard-earned belt buckle, a testament to conquering one of Colorado's most awe-inspiring and demanding ultras.
