The Crown Stub 100 course, boasting over 7,000 feet of elevation gain, presents a diverse and engaging challenge. Runners will traverse a double out-and-back route primarily utilizing the Banks Vernonia State Trail, known for its asphalt surface, and the Crown Zellerbach Trail, characterized by hard-packed gravel. Approximately 10% of the course winds through technical and potentially slick dirt trails within Stub Stewart State Park, particularly during the initial four miles. The journey will take participants through scenic landscapes, directing them around Vernonia Lake and extending towards Scappoose before turning back. The race culminates with a demanding final lap on the 6.5-mile Stub Stewart Trail Challenge course, leading back to the finish line at the Hill Top Day Use Area.
Throughout this epic undertaking, runners will find ample support with 13 aid stations along the course, including four full-service stations at Stewarts Gate and Vernonia offering a wide array of options like burgers, grilled cheese, and quesadillas. Participants are allowed two drop bags, accessible up to six times at these key aid stations. Pacers can join runners from the Pisgah Aid Station (Mile 40) to offer encouragement and navigation.
