Prepare for an exhilarating challenge at the inaugural Crystal Rush, a premier mountain bike race set against the stunning backdrop of Thompsonville, MI, on May 9, 2026. Participants can choose from three demanding distances: the full 18.6-mile course, a formidable 12.4-mile option, or the spirited 9.3-mile challenge. These distances correspond to multiple laps of a dynamic 3.1-mile circuit, promising a true cross-country (XCO) experience. Typical race day conditions in early May feature comfortable highs around 64°F and lows near 42°F, with a mere 14% chance of precipitation, creating ideal racing weather.
The Crystal Rush course, designed by mountain biking enthusiasts, offers a thrilling adventure through Crystal Mountain's renowned trail system and adjacent state land. Racers will navigate a mix of "wicked-good single-track and two-tracks" through dense hardwoods and cedar/pine lowland forests, winding towards the Betsie River. What sets this race apart is the strategic choice offered each lap: tackle the "adrenaline-pumping A-line," featuring jumps and technical sections, or opt for the "more traditional B-line" for a scenic yet challenging descent down the mountain. Expect climbs out of the river basin and across newly built single-track on the mountain's west side, culminating in a fast descent on the "Pistachio" trail.
Part of the exciting Boundless Race and Ride Company Grand Prix, Crystal Rush promises an electric atmosphere from start to finish, with projected lap times as quick as 14 minutes. While there are awesome vistas, the fast-paced nature of the course means little time for sightseeing. The event culminates in a vibrant post-race celebration at Peak2Peak, offering a fantastic conclusion to a fresh, fast, and seriously fun addition to Michigan's mountain biking scene.
