About This Race

Prepare for an unforgettable challenge at the DT Stone Anvil, a demanding trail race held within the stunning Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth, Georgia, from April 14-19, 2026. Nestled in the rugged Cohutta Mountains, this event offers a range of ultra distances, including 72HR, 200M, 100M, 100K, and 50K, promising an intense experience for every endurance athlete. Typical race day conditions in mid-April feature comfortable highs around 72°F and lows around 47°F, with a roughly 19% chance of precipitation, creating a variable yet often beautiful backdrop for your efforts.

The DT Stone Anvil course is renowned for its relentless terrain and significant elevation changes. Runners will tackle a series of inner and outer loops, each spanning approximately 20 miles with a formidable 5,000 to 5,500 feet of elevation gain. The challenge intensifies with "Double Taps" on the Pinhoti Connector trail, adding an extra 3.4 miles and around 1,500 feet of ascent, particularly during the initial loops. A highlight for many, and the inspiration behind the "Anvil" theme, is the notorious "Power Line Climb"—a mile-long ascent featuring a quarter-mile of steep, vertical trudging with about 1,000 feet of gain. While much of the route navigates rolling double-wide trails, expect technical sections along the Gahuti trail and a mix of "lite, hard, and brutal climbs" throughout. The 100-mile course alone can accumulate an impressive 25,000 to 27,000 feet of total elevation gain, making it a true test of grit and preparation.

This race has earned its reputation over more than a decade as one of the most challenging ultras in the Southeast, serving as a key event that kicks off the prestigious Pinhoti Slam. The start/finish area is conveniently located near the main parking by the lake or at Shelter 4 within the Old Fort area, offering a central hub for activity. With an abundance of aid points, including four main aid stations and additional water stops, runners receive ample support on the course. Crew access is permitted at designated main aid points like Lakeside, Cool Springs Overlook, and the Park Entrance, making it a family-friendly event where supporters can frequently cheer on their athletes. Cutoff times are strictly enforced, ensuring runner safety on this demanding and beautiful journey through Fort Mountain State Park.
