Get ready for an electrifying evening at the Electric 5k, returning to Las Cruces, NM, on July 3, 2026! This unique Southwestern event offers both a 5K and a 1-mile fun run, providing an unforgettable experience for runners of all ages and abilities. What truly sets the Electric 5k apart is the unparalleled atmosphere: it's the only 5K run in the Southwest that takes place at twilight, directly in front of thousands of spectators eagerly awaiting the annual Las Cruces Electric Light Parade.
The course promises an ideal setting for personal bests, featuring less than 10 feet of elevation gain, making it an exceptionally flat and fast route. Both races kick off from West Hadley Avenue across from the Meerscheidt Center, with the 1-mile fun run starting at 7:30 PM MDT and the 5K following at 8:00 PM MDT. Runners on the 5k course will head south on West Hadley Avenue, then north to Madrid, making a U-turn before the Apodaca Baseball field before retracing their steps to the finish line, all on a closed and secure road. Typical race day conditions in early July for Las Cruces feature highs around 97°F and lows around 69°F with a minimal 4% chance of precipitation, ensuring a dry, albeit warm, evening as temperatures begin to cool from the daytime peak.
Beyond the race itself, participants receive a tech shirt and race swag, with age group awards for top finishers, separate from the overall top three. Adding to the festive spirit are costume contests, team prizes, and after-race snacks and drinks. Free race photos and finisher videos are posted to the results page, allowing you to relive your exhilarating run through the cheering crowds. Portions of the proceeds from this volunteer-produced event benefit local youth running programs, making your participation even more impactful. Ages 14 and under can even register for free for either distance, though giveaways are not included with free registration.
