Face the Forest 5K (Obstacle Course Race)

Get ready for an adventure at the Face the Forest 5K, an exhilarating obstacle course race set against the historic backdrop of Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest plantation in Lynchburg, VA. Taking place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, this 3.1-mile challenge invites runners of all abilities to conquer a course filled with various obstacles and plenty of mud. Competitive "Elite" waves are available for individuals and teams vying for cash prizes and bragging rights, requiring all obstacles to be completed. For the majority of participants, non-competitive waves allow for a more relaxed approach, where obstacles are entirely optional with no penalties. Corporate and elite teams of 5-8 are encouraged to work together, as a single finishing time is recorded for the last team member crossing the line.

As the 13th annual running of this popular event, the Face the Forest 5K has a strong reputation for combining challenging fun with a worthwhile cause, as entry fees support educational programming at Poplar Forest. Typical race day conditions in mid-August include highs around 86°F and lows around 65°F, with a 14% chance of precipitation, so prepare for a potentially warm and humid, possibly damp, race. The start and finish lines are located within the plantation grounds, with participants directed to enter via the service entrance at 687 Poplar Forest Dr., Forest, VA. Packet pickup will be available on Friday, August 14th, and on race day morning.
