About This Race

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of West Virginia's stunning wilderness at the Falling Water 100K, taking place on April 25, 2026, in Oak Hill. This challenging ultramarathon, organized by Rim to River Endurance Co., offers solo runners and relay teams a unique opportunity to experience the breathtaking trails of ACE Adventure Resort and the iconic New River Gorge National Park. The course comprises four demanding 25K (15.5 mile) loops, each boasting approximately 2,400 feet of elevation gain and loss, totaling 9,600 feet of vertical challenge over the full 100K. Runners will navigate a diverse terrain featuring runnable sections, picturesque waterfalls, the banks of the New River, and a memorable Arbuckle Creek crossing that may require some rock-hopping. Be prepared for steep "climbs from Hell," technical rock scrambles, and potentially slippery, rooty sections that will test your grit and focus.

The Falling Water 100K is celebrated for its immersive natural beauty, with participants often remarking on the continuous display of waterfalls, vibrant green forests, and expansive gorge views throughout the race. The looped format not only offers a strategic advantage for runners to resupply and access crew at the main start/finish area at the Mountain Top Campground, but also provides a sense of familiar challenge with each repeat of the scenic 15.5-mile loop. While two hydration stations per loop provide water and Hyperlyte Liquid Performance (or Gnarly Fuel2-O), runners are required to be self-sufficient with their own hydration vessels, as it is a cupless race. The main aid station at the start/finish is known for being "hyped & overstocked," offering a wide array of sustenance, including hot foods like quesadillas, perogies, pancakes, and ramen to fuel your journey.

Typical race day conditions in late April see comfortable highs around 68F and lows around 46F, with a 22% chance of precipitation, offering a pleasant spring running environment. With a generous 24-hour cutoff for solo 100K participants and the option to have a pacer for the final loop, the Falling Water 100K is an accessible yet formidable ultra that promises stunning scenery and a profound sense of accomplishment. Finishers of the solo 100K will earn a custom belt buckle, and the top male and female finishers secure a free entry into the prestigious Rim to River 100.
