Conquer the stunning high desert landscape at the Flat Top Mesa Endurance Run 2026, set for February 14th in Mesquite, Nevada. This challenging event offers a range of distances including 100M, 100K, 50M, and 50K, all utilizing a demanding yet incredibly scenic 10-mile counter-clockwise loop. Runners can anticipate typical race day conditions with highs around 66°F and lows near 36°F, and only a 2% chance of precipitation, creating ideal cool-weather endurance racing.
The course is predominantly rugged desert trail, a mix of packed dirt and rocky sections, offering expansive views of the Mesquite desert and surrounding mountains. Each 10-mile loop features a significant elevation challenge, starting with a steep initial climb of nearly 400 feet in the first mile, followed by rolling hills, and concluding with a thrilling, steep descent. Expect approximately 430 feet of net elevation gain per loop. Well-placed aid stations ensure runners are supported, with a water station at the loop's start/finish in the parking lot and a full aid station around the halfway point of each loop. The 50K and 100K distances also include a brief 0.5-mile out-and-back on a nearby bike path to round out their mileage.
What makes Flat Top Mesa truly stand out is the unique experience of running almost entirely atop the mesa after the initial ascent, providing relentless views and a true test of grit. Pacers are permitted after dark for the 100-mile and 100-kilometer events, and for 50K and 50M participants if they anticipate finishing in the dark, with special provisions for runners over 70 to have a pacer from the start. Runners are advised to approach the steep climbs and technical descents with conservative pacing. This race promises a memorable desert ultra experience, rewarding perseverance with breathtaking vistas and the satisfaction of mastering its demanding terrain.
