Foot Traffic Flat Marathon

Join a beloved Northwest tradition on July 4, 2026, at the Foot Traffic Flat Marathon in scenic Portland, Oregon. Offering marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K distances, this race is renowned as one of the flattest and fastest courses on the West Coast, making it an exceptional choice for runners aiming for a personal record or a Boston Marathon qualifying time. Set on picturesque Sauvie Island, just 15 minutes north of Portland, the course treats participants to captivating views of charming farmlands, serene riverbanks, abundant wildlife including bald eagles, and, on clear days, distant glimpses of Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens.

The certified marathon course, starting and finishing at The Pumpkin Patch, is primarily a loop with an out-and-back section along Sauvie Island Road. While largely flat, runners will encounter a few gentle rolls and subtle undulations, with a minimal elevation gain/loss of around 236 feet. Aid stations are generously spaced approximately every two miles, providing water, electrolytes like Nuun, and Gu Liquid Energy Gels, along with restrooms and hand-washing stations. Runners consistently praise the race's intimate, friendly atmosphere and excellent organization.

Known as the "best Fourth of July race tradition in the Northwest," the Foot Traffic Flat embraces a patriotic spirit. Typical race day conditions see lows around 57F and highs around 80F with a 4% chance of precipitation, though early start times are offered to help runners mitigate the mid-morning heat. The finish line excitement is capped off with delicious treats, including local Alden's Organic ice cream, and finishers receive super cute, often farm-themed medals, shirts, and custom bibs. A portion of the proceeds also benefits the Sauvie Island Fire District.
