Forever Young Run

Lace up for the 21st annual Forever Young Run, set to take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, in the scenic high desert of Placitas, New Mexico. This cherished event, offering challenging 6-mile and 3-mile distances, honors the memory of Charlie Young, an avid runner and outdoorsman, with participants often embracing the tradition of running shirtless in his spirit. Both routes navigate the wide dirt roads of the National Forest Service Forest Loop Road, presenting runners with rolling hills and breathtaking views through a picturesque piñon and juniper landscape. The 6-mile course completes a full loop, while the 3-mile option turns around at the 1.5-mile mark to head back to the start/finish area.

The Forever Young Run promises an engaging race day experience. Typical race day conditions in April offer pleasant running weather, with highs around 69°F and lows near 38°F, accompanied by a minimal 2% chance of precipitation. After conquering the course, runners can look forward to well-deserved refreshments, including delicious breakfast burritos, at the finish line located at a small trailhead/parking area off Highway 165. This community-focused race, sponsored by the Albuquerque Road Runners Club, also gives back by donating a portion of its proceeds to the Placitas Community Library, adding a meaningful layer to your achievement.
