This race offers a unique opportunity to explore the diverse and rugged beauty of Yellow River State Forest, nestled in Iowa's picturesque driftless area. Runners can choose from a family-friendly Friday night 5K, followed by Saturday's challenging 5K, 10K, or Half Marathon (21K) distances.

The courses promise an engaging experience, winding through beautiful woodlands, across rolling valleys, and along meandering trout streams, with breathtaking views and even overlooks of the Mississippi River. You'll navigate varied terrains, from challenging uphills to smooth downhill glides, encountering bluffs, meadows, and pine tree crops. With over 50 miles of multi-purpose trails, including the extensively marked Paint Creek Unit, Yellow River State Forest offers a true taste of wilderness, known as one of Iowa's premier backpacking destinations. Aid stations will be strategically placed throughout the course to keep you hydrated and energized.

Typical race day conditions in early May feature comfortable highs around 68°F and lows around 46°F, with an 18% chance of precipitation, creating ideal running weather. Beyond the run, participants support a vital cause; all funds raised are invested directly back into enhancing Yellow River State Forest for public use and protecting its natural integrity. Consider the "Dirty Double" challenge, combining a Friday and Saturday race to earn a special handcrafted mug.
