Lace up for a meaningful stride at the GCXC + Cancer Bridges Community Run on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Pittsburgh, PA. This inspiring event celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the Sean T. Smith Memorial Just A Short Run and unites runners and walkers of all abilities to support Cancer Bridges, a vital local charity providing free programs and services to those impacted by cancer. Choose your challenge from a 5K, 8.1M, 13.1M, or 30K, and look forward to a fantastic pancake breakfast hosted by Cancer Bridges staff and volunteers post-race. Typical race day conditions in early February often see highs around 37°F and lows around 22°F, with a 13% chance of precipitation, creating a brisk but invigorating atmosphere for your run.
The course is designed as a series of flexible loops, all commencing and concluding at Cancer Bridges, located at 2816 Smallman Street in Pittsburgh's vibrant Strip District. This innovative format, crafted by Coach Kim Lambert from City of Bridges Run Club, allows participants the unique flexibility to complete their chosen distance by running multiple loops or finishing after a specific circuit. Pace groups will be available, ranging from 7:30/mile to run/walk intervals, ensuring a supportive environment for every participant. For those tackling longer distances like the 10 and 16 miles, an additional aid station featuring water, cups, and a trash bag will be positioned around 11.5 miles at the corner of West Ohio Street and Western Avenue on the North Side.
What truly sets the GCXC + Cancer Bridges Community Run apart is its commitment to community and cause. This free event, though donations are gladly accepted for Cancer Bridges, especially for those enjoying the delicious pancake breakfast, fosters bonding and exercise for a great cause. Many Pittsburgh run clubs come together for this experience, which also includes fun surprises, opportunities for discounted registrations to future events, and raffle prizes. Participants praise the event for its camaraderie and the "Miles, Pancakes, and Purpose" spirit, making it a beloved gathering for the Pittsburgh running community.
