This poignant 5K run and walk offers participants a chance to honor the memory of Gene Van Wyk, a beloved guidance counselor at Pella Christian High School, whose dedication to faith, family, and education left a lasting impact on the community. The race begins at 9:00 AM sharp from Pella Christian High School, located at 300 Eagle Lane. This event is known for its welcoming atmosphere, inviting runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, with strollers heartily encouraged.

The Gene Van Wyk 5K boasts an enjoyable and notably flat out-and-back course, praised by past participants as "awesome". Starting near Pella's vibrant town square, the route offers a pleasant journey through the heart of the community. Runners can anticipate typical race day conditions in early April, with historical highs around 57°F and lows around 34°F, and a 13% chance of precipitation, making for ideal running weather. Consider wearing layers you can shed as you warm up, and be mindful of potentially breezy sections on exposed parts of the course.
