The Great Olympic Adventure Trail Run (GOAT Run) lives up to its name, traversing the scenic Kelly Ridge between the majestic Olympic National Park and the serene Strait of Juan de Fuca. The point-to-point courses predominantly follow the single-track Olympic Adventure Trail, interwoven with unpaved forest roads and minimal pavement. Prepare for lush green forests, vibrant moss and ferns, towering evergreens, and panoramic views of the Elwha River Valley and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with glimpses of Vancouver Island in Canada. The half marathon, roughly 14 miles, features approximately 1500 feet of elevation gain, while the marathon climbs about 3500 feet, and the 50K, slightly under the official distance, boasts an impressive 3700 feet of elevation gain. The 50K course offers an exciting out-and-back section along the Spruce Railroad Trail, guiding runners through a restored historic railroad tunnel and to the striking Devil's Punchbowl. Aid stations are strategically placed throughout all courses, providing essential fuel and hydration for this challenging, cupless event.
Each race culminates at the stunning Lake Crescent, nestled within Olympic National Park, famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. The finish line awaits at the Log Cabin Resort, where participants can unwind with heavy snacks, refreshing drinks from the beer and cider garden, and celebrate their achievement amidst picturesque lake and mountain views. Renowned for its friendly, community-focused atmosphere and laid-back approach, the GOAT Run is an impeccably organized event that also contributes a portion of its proceeds to local trail maintenance efforts. Runners will receive custom race swag, including a commemorative pint glass, to remember their epic journey through this truly unforgettable Pacific Northwest trail experience.
