Lace up for a summer tradition at the HandCart Days Half Marathon, 5K, and 1K on July 25, 2026, in scenic Bountiful, Utah. This beloved race, part of the annual Handcart Days Festival, offers a refreshing alternative to typical canyon runs with its predominantly flat and fast courses. The Half Marathon features a total elevation gain of just 187 feet and descent of 161 feet, providing an ideal setting for personal bests. Runners will journey on an out-and-back course, starting and finishing near the South Davis Recreation Center, winding through city streets and enjoying approximately five miles on the Legacy Parkway Trail. The 5K also boasts a largely flat route, while the 1K offers a fun run for all ages, led by Pioneer Pete himself.
Participants can anticipate a well-supported experience, with six aid stations spaced approximately every two miles along the Half Marathon course, offering water, Powerade, and energy gels at mile 6. The 5K includes one aid station halfway through providing water, Gatorade, and first aid. To beat the July heat, the half marathon kicks off with an early start, a feature often praised by runners for keeping temperatures "desert cool" during much of the race. Typical race day conditions see highs around 88°F and lows around 68°F, with a minimal 4% chance of precipitation.
Beyond the course, the HandCart Days Races are celebrated for their vibrant community atmosphere and unique touches. Finishers receive a custom race bib, a polyester technical running shirt, and a unique medal, with overall and division winners vying for special Utah-shaped cutting boards and cowbell awards. Post-race, participants can enjoy a variety of treats, including a post-race breakfast and ice cream. This event welcomes dogs on leashes, strollers, and wheelchairs, ensuring a race day experience for everyone.
